I NEED to check this place out. It has been on my go to list along with Jaguar in the Grove for some time

Re: Live blogging from Ceviche 105

Buena Vista Deli in the Design District is my favorite too! In fact, I pass on the food tour a complimentary madeleine they offer to our attendees so that people venture out of South Beach and see other interesting places to eat - this place makes me feel good, and I really love to go there, have a glass of chilled wine and write on the blog. The owner cares for his clients and it shows.
Thanks for all the other mentioned and recommendations, I know I will probably eat the entire city of Miami =) and I'll keep these ones on a close radar.
My mother is a Greek cuisine fanatic =), and the last time she was visiting us I took her to Mandolin and Anise Tavern. The food is very good on both places, the only difference to me was that at Anise Tavern I felt the owners were so warm, attentive and so welcoming. I observed them how they specially took care and made sure everyone was having a good dinning experience, and that to me counts a lot. In either place their grilled octopus is AMAZING. This is one of those dishes I would never leave a Greek resto without trying.
Cheers,

Re: Live blogging from Ceviche 105

Well, you certainly have me planning on ordering a tiradito soon! Embarrassingly I haven't ordered a tiradito yet - just the regular ceviches which I've also loved! I'm glad to see that this place is using sea bass (or corvina as they'll call it) for their ceviches, in traditional Peruvian form.

As for my other recommendations, ... it really depends on what you like! :) I'm sure my tastes may not be 100% the same as anybody else. But since it's the morning, my mind is on bakeries! I love Fratelli Milano, also in downtown, for their Italian pastries - a delight especially in the mornings. The selection is limited, but anything they make there is just pure gold. I believe they are temporarily and briefly closed for renovations and expansion (into the space next door - same thing Ceviche 105 did last year) since it is another downtown hotspot that became popular by word of mouth (no advertising). But if you're more of a French pastries type of gal, then Buena Vista Deli in the Design District is my favorite (because they even use European butter, which just makes everything just so much creamier and richer!) For a morning French cafe experience, Buena Vista Deli and A La Folie have been my go-to places.

I'm still trying some restaurants around Miami, and I love reading your posts. I also wanted to ask you, for Greek, what do you recommend?
Re: Live blogging from Ceviche 105

I edited the post because it was a rough comp =), I feel like I had dirty laundry lying around !! I changed it from "she" to "he" - sorry for that =)
Anyways, after you recommended this place, now I am thinking, what other places you would recommend in Miami? I mean, coming from you now - you gained my trust!
Cheers,
Grace

Re: Live blogging from Ceviche 105

I'm glad you loved it! (Just for the record, I'm a he, not a she, haha). ;) I went there yesterday myself and I found out that the chica roll is offered only on weekends, but I still nevertheless had a great time as they played live music every last Thursdays of the month - headed by a Asian-Peruvian who is a good singer. She sang "La Flor de la Canela," a Peruvian classic, very beautifully.

Re: Cafe Bustelo Cuban Coffee

Thanks for sharing! and yes, Bustelo coffee makes my morning WAY happier =). Long are the days in which I used to stand at the local Starbucks on line to pay for a $4, the day I discovered Bustelo - mornings started to make sense (and i do not have to hear my husband saying "you actually pay $4 for a coffee?", just make coffee at home and save $100s a month.
Cheers,
Grace

Re: I love to hear what visitors to Miami have to say about our culinary scene

Gee, I finally figured out how to add an image to this DISQUS thing, I think I will change this plug in on the blog, it just bugs me. Anyways, oh Pisco Sour! it reminds me of my mother, she LOVED those. Okay, now, I MUST visit these two places you mentioned, I will try to make it over there this week as I am close to downtown Miami. I will report my experience. Maybe El Gran Inka has good pisco sour? Have you been there? I went to the one on Aventura, although a bit more upscale (and with that comes the price) it is a good place and they have a full bar, maybe they craft good Pisco sours there.
Cheers, Grace

Re: I love to hear what visitors to Miami have to say about our culinary scene

I have - and I swear by Ceviche 105 but I haven't gone to Sabor de Peru too many times so I should sample around more of their offerings.

Ceviche 105 has good ceviche, but I also like their chaufa rice, pescado a lo macho, and of course their ceviches. Their other offerings are good and the prices and portions are good as well (the last Thursdays is a fun time but I do think they charge a bit more for the special event - but really, it's a fun atmosphere that's unparalleled at other Peruvian restaurants I've been to).

Unfortunately I still haven't found a place with pisco sour at a good price. Ceviche 105 has a good rendition but they're not as affordable as I'd like to see them be. But since it's already a downtown hotspot, I may be asking for too much.

Meanwhile, other Peruvian to try - La Licuadora, also in downtown Miami. But for different reasons. They have a great tasting rotisserie chicken, South American style. And I'm also fond of their version Peruvian tamales and the tilapia they have there, with seafood.

For tourists though, I always point them to Ceviche 105 because of the added "chic" New York style ambience, extensive menu, and authenticity. Just what they need to see, to have a feeling that Peruvian is a widely accepted cuisine in Miami (a stark contrast to Chalan on the Beach where both the food and the ambience seem to be an afterthought).

Re: Cafe Bustelo Cuban Coffee

I love this coffee. It is affordable, the portions can be split in two meals, and their tomato soup with seafood could is exceptional. I have heard many times about Ceviche 105 in downtown Miami. I will make it there this coming week and I'll be doing a post. Thanks you for sharing!

Re: I love to hear what visitors to Miami have to say about our culinary scene

I've tried Gelateria Parmalat and as much as I love the tiramisu flavor there, my new favorite gelato spot will have to be 4D in South Pointe. Get the bosco di fruitti, mango, and chocolate scoops together and it's heaven on earth!

And for Peruvian, I still think Ceviche 105 in downtown Miami is the place to be (especially during the last Thursdays of the month when they get live music and specials going - try their special-only-for-that-date Chica roll!)

Re: I love to hear what visitors to Miami have to say about our culinary scene

Thanks for sharing - I will check them out, I am familiar with Gelateria Parmalat but not the Vegetarian Restaurant by Hakin, so that one will be my next quest.
Cheers,
Grace

Re: I love to hear what visitors to Miami have to say about our culinary scene

I found two priceless culinary gems on a recent trip to Miami: Vegetarian Restaurant by Hakin in North Miami Beach serves up the tastiest Caribbean American cuisine this side of heaven. And I fell head-over-heals in love with the fruit sorbet at Gelateria Parmalat. It's so creamy, it tastes like it's made with dairy, but they swear it's only fruit and water. To begin with, the owner of Roma Bakery is Giacomo Bianchi - not Gianfranco. And as attached as you may have gotten in your one hour, you apparently weren't listening as he is not Argentinian: The owner is Italian, hence the name "Roma". Also, he has been the owner of the bakery for over 40 years (not 25)!

It's great that you want to share the best cuisine this city has to offer, but please take the time to get your facts straight before posting something. It's not only what will help set this site apart from any other blog but also it's a disservice to the people who spend years creating such a great place to not do your research.

Re: La Marea Sizzles on Ocean Drive.
